Short note

November 14th, 2007

Last year’s progress was indeed very slow for peregrinus: you can see this on the latest post date. However, some work still was done behind the scenes; one of them is to initiate a very first look at the controversial Heim’s Theory. We think that a serious, peer-reviewed approach should clarify it’s merits - if they exists.

The other projects show essentially no progress - this only means that they are currently dormant. But we continue our efforts!

Valencia

October 7th, 2006

The 57th International Astronautical Congress was a great event in Valencia. Held at the wonderful venue La Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències - be sure it is really worth to make a visit there! - it is a milestone for peregrinus interstellar as well.

Besides to the growing support peregrinus interstellar experiences - which I appreciate very much! -, I would like to report on the start of further work. Just some quick remarks here:

  • The pi Library Rapid Prototype is online since mid-September. It reflects the main thoughts on the Blueprint for the pi Library. You may check the line of work outlined there.
  • The idea of Little Peregrinus was discussed in Valencia. In short, it is intended to become the first phase of our proposed Project Peregrinus (for this, see in peregrinus interstellar: An Introduction). In the framework of Little Peregrinus we want to look for realistic near-term interstellar precursor missions, which should be able to bring together science, technology, arts and culture in a unique blend and so to capture broad public interest and support. The same time, we intend to keep the proposals simple and low-cost. Watch out for news on our first planned investigation, dubbed right now as Faces from Earth!

Last but not least: new ideas are always around, as John C. Mankins demonstrated this vividly by his new MagLev-Ring approach to interstellar flight (IAC-06-D3.2.08).

Projects

July 28th, 2006

Project work is signalling that an organization begins to live. This is now happening to peregrinus interstellar: we have started our first two projects. Admittedly, they are small and moderate; and progress is and will be slow at the beginning - but be aware, this work is done in the spare time of the people.

Our #1 is the Blueprint for the pi Library. This project aims at a definition for scope and structures for an internet-based bibliography of research documents on interstellar spaceflight.

The #2, Basic Structures for pi is an internal organization project, in some sense a bootstrap: its goal is a definition of the basic structures for peregrinus interstellar. Here we are looking for an adequate organisational framework, especially for PINT, our peregrinus interstellar network. We plan also to introduce The PI Club, an internet-based platform for all who are interested in the topics pursued by peregrinus interstellar.

Look out for our Projects Overview, available soon!

Welcome!

April 6th, 2006

2007 will see the end of the first half century of space exploration, the era heralded by the Sputnik 1 flight on the 4th October 1957. Next week, on the 12th April, the world shall celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first human spaceflight - in memory of Yuri Gagarin. This year, in January, the New Horizons Mission started to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt - to the edge of our solar system.

These are just a few of the initial cornerstones at the beginning of a long journey to the stars. The endeavour will continue step by step - the Innovative Interstellar Explorer may be one of the next ones.

peregrinus interstellar intends to support credible research, development and public outreach on interstellar spaceflight and related topics. It is right now in the initial phase of its - hopefully long - existence. Its organisational form and scope are far from settled, but I feel that it is good to seek people’s opinion on and support for this kind of a grass-roots organisation from the beginning - I invite you to contact me.

I am grateful to all who shared their time and thoughts during the “first scan” on the ideas for peregrinus interstellar; many thanks especially for the encouragement I received.

Ad astra pedetemptim - step by step to the stars.

Welcome to peregrinus interstellar!
